Make This Fantastic Terra Cotta Water Fountain Using Garden Materials!
I am not the gifted gardener, but I am a better home decorator! Now that we are moving into the summer period, I toyed with buying a water fountain, but I felt like the cost was just too much. So I decided to my own water fountain using some Terra Cotta flower pots and saucers. I remember visiting some japenese tea gardens a few years ago and saw some of these water fountain structures and I now have the opportunity to try and recreate what I saw in Japan. Having visited many botanical garden events, I feel confident that I will achieve the right balance for my outdoor home decor and this new water fountain (addition to home ideas).
You will need at least two different sized flower pots, six saucers (three small ones, two medium and one large one), plastic tubing, a water fountain pump, silicone sealer, scissors, filing rod, clear sealer spray, drill and a drill bit and a large bucket.
What to do:
First, you need to soak the flower pots and saucers in water for at least one hour. This process will make it easier to drill and file the dishes and pots without having them break. Then you will want to spray the biggest saucer with clear sealer at least twice and wait for it to dry. Now that those two tasks have been completed we can move forward to drilling the holes and making grooves into the flower pot and saucers respectively (please follow the tutorial, so you know which ones need holes and which ones need groves). If the holes are too small use the filing rod to make it a bit bigger. After that is done, it is time to fit the plastic tubing through the flower pot; the pot should be facing down. Next, thread the medium saucer on top of the flower pot and cut the tube to about one inch. Apply the silicone sealer and wait for it to dry before covering it with the smaller saucer. If the tubing is too stiff to fit over the mouth of the water fountain pump, try soaking it for a few minutes in warm water to make it more pliable. Finally, it’s time to arrange the other saucers and smaller flower pot on the large dish, add a potted plant if you want to and turn your fountain on!

We are going to make some grooves in some of the saucers.
Make sure it’s on a nice flat surface now!
In one of the pots file a groove big enough to house the plastic tubing.
Double check that the plastic tubing can fit into the holes that were drilled into the saucer.
Fastening the plastic tube to the mouth of the fountain pump.
Tip to loosening up too tight plastic tubing!
Now it’s time to get the flower pot assembly together!
The saucer is now going to be threaded through the tubing.
Cut off the excess hose after making sure the pump is flush in the center at the base.
